Wahoo … Rounds with the Pros is Back!
Late Friday afternoon, many of Author U’s Pros and Speakers will host table rounds of 10–it’s a collective “pick their brain” or it could be a mini talk–you never know. Tables will be labeled–you have three choices and a seat that lasts for 20 minutes before you get up and move to another. If a table is full, move to another. AJ White will be our moderator.

Wahoo … Author Shark Tank … NEW!
Three HOT sessions will be available. Only ONE Extravaganza Attendee can get his or her toe in a Author Shark Tank at a time. Our panel will listen for a few minutes to your pitch (hear/read that: LISTEN) and then decide IF and HOW they will help the author in the book quest. If could be money; it could be time; it could be a product–as in I have this that I sell all day for $797 and it’s yours; it could be printing reduction; it could be a book cover; it could be a discount on a layout; it could be … What it could be will be solely dependent on YOU and YOUR PITCH to hook them and could be worth many thousands of dollars. Or if you bomb, you may only end up with a shark tooth! To enter the tank, the cost is $500. There are only 3 spots–will one be yours? This is first come, first serve basis.

Wahoo … Create a Stellar Video (spots are limited!) BONUS!
Have you wondered why celebrities being interviewed on television can look so calm when millions of people are watching them? And have you ever wondered if you could do that? At the Extravaganza you will learn how to perform on national television and radio while appearing calm and collected during the Eaglet session Thursday.

The key to any good performance is preparation. Just as actors do, media guests need to know what they are going to say during all their performances and practice their delivery of each word beforehand. Adequate preparation will make you more confident in your ability to perform and help you relax while you are on the air. At the Eaglet/Newbie session on Thursday afternoon, May 2, you will get the prep info you need.

During the Extravaganza on Friday and Saturday, you have the opportunity to make a stellar, short video. The cost is only $50—use it for your website, YouTube channel—whatever! Brian Jud will guide you through your interview and you will get the clip emailed within a week after the Extravaganza. You must sign up to participate in the video shoot—there are limited slots available Friday and Saturday, shooting times are 10-3 each day.

Wahoo … Pick Their Brains Back again, this is the time you can get a face-to-face with many of our Speakers. Throughout Friday and Saturday, we have one-on-one sessions that last 15 minutes. Have your questions ready–get a maxi-consult in mini-time for mini-bucks. Cost is $15, moneys go to the Author U Foundation which will seed the Authors Hall of Fame. You must register for Pick Their Brains onsite at the Author U Registration Desk–it’s a first come, first served basis based on availability.

Wahoo … Saturday Laugh Special at the Improv!
The Extravaganza is over. If you are staying over before heading home, or a Colorado local, we are heading to the Improv for Laughter, supper and beverage. Author U will get you there. Cost is $15 a head–for the show–you buy food and beverage. Comic Hypnotist Rich Guzzi is the star of the night: Watch as Rich invites volunteers from the audience to be hypnotized right before your eyes and then puts them into the most outrageously funny situations you can possibly imagine. No two shows are alike and you will laugh till it hurts on this non-stop roller coaster ride of comedy mayhem. Here’s a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrBliaZWcro If you are going, you need to register for this by April 20th. Cost is $15 … you buy your own food and drink (discounted from $17). Send an email to Judith@Briles.com and put in subject line: comedy show. Author U will pre-pay for your ticket, you can pay at the Extravaganza when you check in.

Wahoo … Friday is Time to Eat, Schmooze, Party!
Author U Extravaganza’s rock and roll band rocks- fun for authors!!! See (and hear) what multi-award winning book cover and interior designer Nick Zelinger does in his spare time—it’s toe tapping, feet moving, even sign a few lines time at Author U! (Music by the Thin Ice Band – voted Colorado’s Number 1 Cover Band – 3 years running )

Wahoo … Get an Extra Ticket for the Friday Night Dinner & Band and Make It Date Night! Grab your favorite partner and attend Author U’s Dinner and Date special. The Ice Thin Band is back and ready to rock to the masses. Have a great dinner; listen to the band (voted Colorado’s #1); you may even want to sing along; or get your feet and bootie out on the dance floor. Ice Thin routinely sells out and they are the Extravaganza’s for the evening. All Friday attendees automatically have a ticket to Dinner. Bring your favorite date for only $35 … Hot!

eBooks and Book Celebrations/Events
Oct 12 @ 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Brunch and LearneVolution is part of your publishing empire. It has to be. Like a menu in a restaurant, eBooks are something that you should create when you create your print book. Or create an eBook, than maybe, create a print book. Then there’s an “a” book—audio.

eBooks now amount to 25 percent of all book sales… and there are strong indications of a flattening of the market with a cross over now to tablets … yet many eBooks can’t be read on a tablet and many tablet books can’t be read on eReaders, like Kindle and Nook. What’s an author to do?

Designer Nick Zelinger will walk you through the step-by-step process; how and why you need to think differently for your covers; what venues you should use to upload and broadcast and so much more. There’s lots to learn and you will get the visuals and the how-tos to make your “e” empire rock and roll.

At this Brunch & Learn, you will come away with:

  • The How-tos of eBook formatting … what works and what definitely doesn’t.
  • The differences between “fixed” formats and “flexible” formats and when you should use them.
  • What works in a standard eBook and what doesn’t.
  • How to include art, tables, graphics.
  • Why “e” covers need a twist.
  • The ins and outs of Amazon’s KDP program.
  • Strategies to market your “e” product line.

AuthorU EventBook Celebrations can be a Launch or a Hoopla. How do you create an event that is both awesome and successful … meaning your sell lots of programs?

  • Determining what type of event to create.
  • Examples of alternatives to traditional book signings.
  • Getting a crowd there.

Author U Chief Visionary Officer Judith Briles has been creating successful author events for years. She’s going to walk you through a variety to ideas to launch and celebrate your book that takes you way beyond the table in the bookstore. Be ready to come away with a flood of ideas to make you and your book stand above the book crowd–she promises that it will be Snappy, Sassy and Salty!

Jan 18 – Jan 24 all-day

Publishing at Sea

OH-OH … You are going to miss this boat … the Publishing at Sea cruise is SOLD OUT!

Authors who need a crash course in book publishing before they write, or need to create demand for books that aren’t selling, can learn the inside secrets of how to write and market a bestseller, during a Caribbean cruise Jan. 18-23, 2014.

The “Create the Ultimate Bestseller at Sea!” cruise includes training sessions and laser coaching by five book publishing experts:

  • Book shepherd Judith Briles, who has written 31 books, including several bestsellers. She hosts the annual Author U in Denver which trains thousands of authors and publishers.
  • Publicity expert Joan Stewart, aka The Publicity Hound, a former journalist who has coached, mentored and trained thousands of authors, writers, publishers, CEOs and  business owners, on how to self-promote.
  •  Book distribution expert Amy Collins who knows every facet of the book distribution labyrinth and has worked with major publishing houses as well as independent authors.
  • Book marketing expert Penny Sansevieri, who has helped make 11 books bestsellers in less than two years.
  • Branding expert Georgia McCabe, a social media strategist and best-selling author, helps authors by predicting how evolving technologies will combine with consumer needs to create business opportunities.

The cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean’s “Brilliance of the Seas” will leave port in Tampa, Fla., and travel to George Town on Grand Cayman, and then onto Cozumel, Mexico.

At sea, participants can attend 12 intensive sessions on strategic book marking, distribution, publicity, professional speaking, social media and other topics important to creating a bestseller. They can also take advantage of laser coaching with the four experts. In port, participants are free to relax and enjoy the sites.

The cost for all workshops, the cruise, taxes and gratuities is $1,100 per person for an outside, ocean view cabin, or $1,200 per person for a balcony. If you were to buy a collective hour of the five “Chicks at Sea”, it would cost you $1500!  Grab your spot for the ultimate working vacation.

Registrants can pay for the trip over six months, via PayPal, with no interest.  All details are on the PublishingAtSea.com website for each workshop.

Things have changed rapidly in the world of audiobooks since Richard Rieman’s award-winning book, The Author’s Guide to Audiobook Creation was first published.

For the first time last year, half of all Americans over the age of 12 have listened to an audiobook!

  • Did you?
  • Do you know someone who has?
  • Have your book buyers asked if you have your book available in audio?

There are new major competitors to Amazon’s Audible in the audiobook creation world.

  • What options are there?
  • Do you know who they are?
  • Should you be distributing through them outside of Amazon’s Audible?

Nonfiction books (History, Biographies, Memoirs) are overtaking many other genres among audiobook listeners.

  • Meaning that NF authors should be creating audiobooks—is yours available now?
  • Will it be your voice or a professional narrator?
  • How will you use it to market your expertise and position it?

Fiction books are naturals for audiobook listeners.

  • No genre is left unturned—what’s yours?
  • Should you have mixed voices/narrators or have a single voice?
  • How about adds—a little music for scene changes?

The Audiobook Wizard, Richard Rieman, will share:

  • Marketing Strategies and Tips for HOW to Market Your Audiobook
  • When Narrating Your Own Book is the Best Option ( and sometimes it is!) plus shortcuts to do a combo of YOU and a Narrator
  • How You Can Cover the Cost of Audiobook Production through Crowdfunding
  • How to Use Audible’s new promotional codes to get reviews and boost sales
Plus, How to Avoid Audiobook Publishing Predators

    …and, of course, much more.

Reach Your Peak of Writing and Editing Peaks of Success

Are your Writing and Editing creating a feeding frenzy for the walking dead? Or, is it ready to ace a black run on any slope?

The lack of editing or poor editing can kill the readability of a book. Get ready for a mountain load of ideas, tips, strategies to take both your writing and pre-editing to another level.

All will prove to be invaluable for both new and experienced writers to develop their skills and increase their writing abilities. No mountain will block you!
