Our panel will listen for a few minutes to your pitch (hear/read that: LISTEN) and then decide IF and HOW they will help the author in the book quest. If could be money; it could be time; it could be a product–as in I have this that I sell all day for $797 and it’s yours; it could be printing reduction; it could be a book cover; it could be a discount on a layout; it could be … What it could be will be solely dependent on YOU and YOUR PITCH to hook them and could be worth many thousands of dollars. Or if you bomb, you may only end up with a shark tooth! To enter the tank, the cost is $500. There are only 3 spots–will one be yours? This is first come, first serve basis.
Wahoo … Create a Stellar Video (spots are limited!) BONUS!
Have you wondered why celebrities being interviewed on television can look so calm when millions of people are watching them? And have you ever wondered if you could do that? At the Extravaganza you will learn how to perform on national television and radio while appearing calm and collected during the Eaglet session Thursday.
The key to any good performance is preparation. Just as actors do, media guests need to know what they are going to say during all their performances and practice their delivery of each word beforehand. Adequate preparation will make you more confident in your ability to perform and help you relax while you are on the air. At the Eaglet/Newbie session on Thursday afternoon, May 2, you will get the prep info you need.
During the Extravaganza on Friday and Saturday, you have the opportunity to make a stellar, short video. The cost is only $50—use it for your website, YouTube channel—whatever! Brian Jud will guide you through your interview and you will get the clip emailed within a week after the Extravaganza. You must sign up to participate in the video shoot—there are limited slots available Friday and Saturday, shooting times are 10-3 each day.
Wahoo … Pick Their Brains Back again, this is the time you can get a face-to-face with many of our Speakers. Throughout Friday and Saturday, we have one-on-one sessions that last 15 minutes. Have your questions ready–get a maxi-consult in mini-time for mini-bucks. Cost is $15, moneys go to the Author U Foundation which will seed the Authors Hall of Fame. You must register for Pick Their Brains onsite at the Author U Registration Desk–it’s a first come, first served basis based on availability.
Wahoo … Saturday Laugh Special at the Improv!
The Extravaganza is over. If you are staying over before heading home, or a Colorado local, we are heading to the Improv for Laughter, supper and beverage. Author U will get you there. Cost is $15 a head–for the show–you buy food and beverage. Comic Hypnotist Rich Guzzi is the star of the night: Watch as Rich invites volunteers from the audience to be hypnotized right before your eyes and then puts them into the most outrageously funny situations you can possibly imagine. No two shows are alike and you will laugh till it hurts on this non-stop roller coaster ride of comedy mayhem. Here’s a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrBliaZWcro If you are going, you need to register for this by April 20th. Cost is $15 … you buy your own food and drink (discounted from $17). Send an email to Judith@Briles.com and put in subject line: comedy show. Author U will pre-pay for your ticket, you can pay at the Extravaganza when you check in.

HOT! Jimmy Wayne is coming to the Extravaganza to entertain and delight attendees on Friday evening. A donation will be made to CASA, the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association. Jimmy is the national spokesperson.
His book, Walk to Beautiful, will be available to purchase onsite.
DON’T MISS: An Evening with Jimmy Wayne…
His Journey, His Book, His Music.
Extra tickets available ($60) for Jimmy Wayne Entertainment and Gourmet Dinner!
If you’re registered for the Extravaganza, your ticket is already included.
A huge country music star, he’s also the author of the just released Walk to Beautiful which will be available to purchase onsite and get signed. Jimmy is a former foster kid turned country music singer/songwriter whose songs and story highlight his mission to bring awareness to kids who age out of the foster system and become homeless. With hits such as Put Your Hand In Mine, I Love You This Much, and Paper Angels, he released Do You Believe Me Now, his biggest hit to date for which he earned the millionaire award for having 100,000,000 radio spins in America.
In 2009, Jimmy toured with Brad Paisley and recorded Sara Smile with Hall & Oates. The next year he became CASA’s national spokesperson and released the novel Paper Angels. In 2012, Jimmy helped get the bill passed extending the age of foster care to 21 in both California and Tennessee. Jimmy lives in Nashville and continues to raise awareness for kids by writing, singing, and speaking.
Jimmy walked halfway across America to raise awareness for foster kids–from Nashville to Phoenix. Don’t miss this amazing man!
Walk to Beautiful is the powerfully emotive account of Jimmy’s childhood and the unconditional love and acceptance Russell and Bea Costner gave to Jimmy. This elderly couple provided a stable home and the chance for him to complete his education. Jimmy says of Bea, “She changed every cell in my body.” After his high school graduation, Jimmy went on to earn a degree in Criminal Justice because, as he says, “I knew a lot about it.” But in his heart Jimmy wanted to write songs and sing.
A music company opened its doors to Jimmy, and he moved to Nashville to pursue his dreams. He had several memorable hits, such as I Love You This Much, Paper Angels, and Do You Believe Me Now, which remained at #1 for three consecutive weeks on the Billboard Chart.
But success was not satisfying. Jimmy remembered where he came from, and he wanted to give back. With his Meet Me Halfway campaign—a 1,700 mile walk from Nashville to Phoenix—Jimmy walked halfway across America, raising awareness for foster children. Along the way he not only found a lot of crazy things, such as coins, keys, a plastic Jesus, and a Lucille Ball ashtray; but he also found himself. And more important, he found a way to forgive the people who had hurt him. Jimmy learned how to walk to beautiful—and so can you.

Authors and books love … love publicity. Are You Getting Your Share?
And, is it the right publicity at the right time? AuthorU’s March Saturday Mornings will be like an onion … each layer will reveal new ahas, tips and the secret sauce to connect with print, radio and TV that could create a tipping point for your and your book.
Led by Rocky Mountain’s PBS Executive Producer and Colorado Matter’s host Cynthia Hessin, get ready to flip what you are doing to propel your publicity forward. Additional members of the Colorado community will be joining Cynthia from print and radio.
- Does being on and in the media work for a book? For the author … or is it a waste of time?
- What publicity should you be seeking?
- How should you pitch “you”?
- What type of follow is acceptable and what should be avoided?
- What materials do you need and what are unnecessary?
Our morning session is dedicated for a Panel of local media pros (TV, radio and print). You will connect, get tips and tricks on how to reach out and connect for you and your book. Cynthia Hessin and Susan Gatschet will open your eyes and your ears.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain PBS News team, Cynthia is the executive producer and host of the weekly news/discussion program, Colorado State of Mind, and produces a variety of other projects for the statewide PBS network. A longtime Denver broadcast journalist, Hessin is familiar to the PBS audience for hosting a variety of award-winning specials, including coverage of elections and public policy issues, and appearances on the national PBS NewsHour.
Chnthia has also earned seven regional Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) for writing, producing and performance. In 2013 she was also admitted to the NATAS Silver Circle, an honor society which recognizes broadcast professionals who have worked in the industry for 25 years and have made substantial contributions to both their craft and their community.
A Denver-area native, Hessin previously worked as a news reporter and anchor at Denver television stations KCNC News 4 and KMGH Denver’s 7, where she specialized in government and policy news. She began her broadcast career at Denver radio stations KHOW and KOA.
Susan Gatschet started volunteering at KUVO radio in 1996 and quickly gained a spot on the airwaves. Wearing a few hats, one is that she books guests for various spots of KUVO and she hosts Take Note, offering a richly diverse listening experience weekdays from 1-4 pm.
Susan is also a voice over artist, promoter, producer and camera operator. An avid photographer, Susan has shot thousands of live performances across the nation.
Standard Fee: $32
ALL OTHERS (including BASIC): $45
REMOTE: Video and handouts one week after event (you must be registered BEFORE March 5th to take advantage of this) AU Members only $32

BONUS AM SESSION
What, Whys and How-tos in Using Bublish
Meet Bublish … the world’s first complete publishing system with integrated branding, book and author marketing and discoverability features. It has award-winning tools to help authors write, publish, promote, sell and track their work — all from a single dashboard.
Bublish’s mission is to empower author-entprepreneurs, or as the team calls them, “authorpreneurs.” The “authorpreneur” title captures the essence of what it means to be a successful author in today’s competitive book marketplace. Authors must be both creative and business minded. With this in mind, the Bublish teams has created a suite of empowering tools. Here’s a sampling of how Bublish can help …
- Grow your audience. Bublish helps you share enriched, author-branded Book Bubbles that are easy to create, put thousands of eyes on you and your book(s), and connect the dots for your target audience. The team typically tracks about 50,000 book bubble engagements each week.
- Build your author brand. Bublish also gives you a LinkedIn-style Author Profile to help you start building your author brand. Here readers can see all your books and Bubbles in one place. Like Book Bubbles, your Author Profile can be shared socially with one click. Did you know readers are 15 times more likely to buy a book from an author with a name they recognize?
- Increase discoverability by search engines like Google. Every time you socially share a Book Bubble or your Bublish Author Profile, you make your author brand and books more discoverable by search engines like Google. This is another important feature we’ve automated for you. When you upload or create a book on Bublish, the keywords and metadata (title, your name, book cover image, keywords, etc.) are optimized for discoverability by search engines. All you have to do is create and share Book Bubbles regularly. Bublish technology handles the rest.
- Track your progress. At the top of your Bublish dashboard, you’ll find real-time metrics showing you when and where readers are engaging with your Book Bubbles and Author Profile. You’ll also see when and where they convert to visit your book’s product page at the major online book retailers.
- Generate beautiful ePub files with one click. Our Cloud-based writing tool lets you input content chapter by chapter on the left-hand side of the screen and select a layout on the right-hand side. With one click, you can change the entire layout of your book. You can export your manuscript anytime either as a Word document for editing OR as an ePub file ready to share with reviewers.
- Engage readers WHILE you’re writing. Share excerpts and insights right from your manuscript with Bublish’s “rough cut” book bubbles. They take only moments to create, so they won’t distract you from writing. They will, however, help you engage readers, get valuable feedback on your manuscript and share your creative journey with potential readers. When you’re ready, you can even add a “pre-order” button to your rough-cut bubbles to start selling your book at all the major online book retailers.
Bublish Founder, Kathy Meis will be here to deliver a “hands-on” demo of the What, Whys and How-tos in Using Bublish the second half of the morning.
Get ready to “bubble” up your Book Fans!
