Authoring, Writing and Book Publishing Tips

Tip 1:

Always enhance any pitch you do with numbers. Don’t just say you’ve coached “hundreds” of clients. Pick a number and estimate as closely as possible. Say how many book awards you’ve won. Reveal how many presentations you’ve made or if you have book sales bragging rights … this might be the place for them to jump out.

Tip 2:

Create an author or speaker one-sheet. It’s a four-color marketing piece, one side, with your photo, program topics, testimonials, a paragraph on who you are and what you do, and full contact information. Use what I call “ruthless editing” to reduce your words. Get feedback from others to review before you push the magic “print” button. This is an essential marketing piece. Here’s my most recent that I created in January:

Tip 3:

If you pepper your introductions with academic degrees. Most won’t care. Instead, mention something that’s uniquely you. What have you done or who have you helped that no one else has? What are your talents and achievements? I’ve always said: It doesn’t matter if you have an MBA or a PhD … what you have to be is G.O.O.D.
