Hot Tips for Authors at AuthorU’s Social Media BookCamp October 3rd

The AuthorU BookCamp last Saturday on Social Media for the Real Word Exposed was an eye-opener for many who attended … a good eye-opener. The goal was to learn it, use it and still have a life.

melody-jonesMelody Jones of Social Media Management Systems structured the day around reasonable and doable social media strategies, including livestreaming and great ideas in creating quick videos.

Beginning with the “pain point” … all were asked to ID what pain pains they had with each social media platform; what time hiccups and of course; what attitude resistance were in play. The plus of this exercise was that we all had to do a realty check of what we wanted and where we were in the process of creating it.

Everyone created a Social Media Audit Sheet on one of their account a few of their accounts. From knowing:

  • Social Network
  • Login credentials
  • Bio (as in … is it really you and searchable?)
  • Average number of postings and what type per week for the previous month.

After describing the differences and how to “grab” a reader audience for several of the platforms, attendees put Melody JonesMelody’s sage words to work. A great technique used to get our heads around fast posting was the use of one of the AuthorU member’s already posted blog. We had to create three Tweets very fast using hashtags; then create a Facebook posting (don’t just copy and paste into other platforms); a Google+ and finally an idea for a Pinterest posting. is HOT for authors. It’s a great source to tap into to gather up all the news and content and any topic or person you want to follow (i.e. their blogs or other feeds)–when you are tracking your competitors and top influencers, Feedly does it for you and you just have one spot to go to. This is a huge time saver for all authors.

Livestreaming is taking over the social media connecting strategies for top authors and marketers. and Periscope are the go-to resources. For anyone with a good Twitter following, Periscope is the go to place to be (and followers don’t need to havwe a Twitter account to tune in). Just download the free app to your phone or tablet and get ready to start broadcasting live to your followers/viewers. It’s you and them. Very cool to push out your expertise and ahas.

When you think of, think of talking heads. You can create a Blab account and be the Host, inviting as of this writing, up to three others to join you in the Blab–it’s you as Host, your guests and the viewers.

As attendee Rhondda Hartman said,  “It was a really good day of information , how to and what needs to get done. Melody was terrific. She presents very well. Concise and clear. Easy and comfortable as a speaker. It was a valuable day for me. Thank YOU for Saturday.”

A good day for all in social media land.
