All of you know that walking your talk is an integral part of personal and professional branding. As an author, you need to look and sound your best. When you pitch your books, you’re pitching yourself! When you get that long awaited call, you want to be ready. Too often when you get the call, you focus on scripting what you’ll say and forget to plan on how to look. Remember, over 80% of what people hear is what they see!

This morning will provide a practical approach that can save you, both men and women, from wishing for a do-over! Today’s speakers will help us look our best in person and sound our best on paper! They will share their secrets of how to become successful. When you leave, you will be ready to fine-tune your brand and ready to win the pitch.

Knowing our rights and when to call an attorney is important as an author, publisher, vendor, and as a person. Many times we don’t understand how to read a contract and negotiate the details; use our own or others’ materials (think, pictures, diaries, etc.); and use copyrights or trademarks in our books, blog posts, and social media postings. This morning will provide a practical approach that can save you a lot of money, time and aggravation. We will use real case studies. Please bring your own and your questions.



  • Julie Bernard, Pay Now or Pay Later (Brag: ) [Note: This will focus mostly on contracts and negotiations.]
  • Nick Zelinger, Another Nightmare Gig from Hell (Brag: ) Featured Author of the Month Nick will share his trials, tribulations, funny and outrageous adventures as a musician and songwriter. Some didn’t make it into his book for reasons he will be sharing! Nick is a successful graphic designer, specializing in book design and production.
  • Julie Bernard, Avoid a Cease and Desist Letter (Brag: ) [Note: This will follow-up from earlier, presentation and delve more into copyrights, trademarks, and use-ability in books, blogs, and social media postings.

Summer BBQ gathering is Saturday afternoon, August 12th from 4 to 8 PM. The site is the CADA—the old Denver mansion that was converted to the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association headquarters. We will have access to the beautiful outdoor facilities that we don’t get to use … because we are always inside.

Registered, there is a fee—Just good eats, great catch up conversations and fun. It will be a beautiful summer day … and if there are “showers” – we will have space within the facility to be protected and continue to party. Get ready to roast s’mores around the firepit!

Celebrating Authors … Hearing them talk about their books … Shopping for gifts–books are ideal! 


Don’t worry … the Broncos aren’t playing!

The Afternoon
: Authors will briefly share with you about their books and who they are in 60 or less seconds each. All books will be displayed on tables to “check-out” and purchase. Books are IDEAL gifts … for yourself, for others. All will be priced at less than what you can buy them on Amazon. Authors will be signing—some even come with ribbons! Children are welcome BUT little ones need to be hand-in-hand with an adult.

Author Judith Briles has offered to host the event again in her beautiful home in Aurora within the Heritage Eagle Bend golf community. It’s a new home for her–so come and enjoy–it will be a beautiful afternoon and fun as always.
